"Monday Nov. 12, 1900.

Here's a little more info about the Liberty Ladies College. Apparently, the school burned 13 years after this picture was taken and today is the site of Liberty Junior High.

A long list of names, but no idea to whom each one belongs! With the help of a Liberty Ladies College yearbook on ancestry.com, I was able to find some of these names but little information. I did find Professor John M. Staley (the man in the hat on the second row from the top), who's many qualifications are listed in the 1898 edition of the yearbook:

Herman and Elinore Paul 1900's, Budapest

"Our cousin and wife
mother's brother son
her nephew Herman Paul
and Elinore Paul."

"Mother's brother children
Our cousin Herman and Elinore Paul and family
in Germany."

This is the Paul family from Germany, which includes Herman, his wife Elinore, and their five children. They are fashionably dressed, which suggests that they may have been well-off. The little girls in the picture appear to be holding crocheted sacks with some sort of balls in them. I wonder if anyone might know what those are?

Maxine, Henry, and Sharie Kay Atkins 1941

"Maxine

This is a little snapshot of the Atkin family posing on a bed with their 3 month-old baby, Sharie (?) Kay. She seems like a very wiggly little girl!

Group of Women 1910's

Edit: "From left to right back row
first row
Emma Lange,

Clara
Brieschke,2) row Clara Lange Wells
Emma Zimmerling Kossow,
3 Bertha and Anna Zimmerling"

Thanks for the help with this!

(Unfortunately, I couldn't make sense of all the names here. Maybe someone could help me out with that?)

I don't know about a man with two wives, like in this week's Sepia Saturday prompt, but I do have some sisters! Two Emmas and two Claras. It seems Emma Lange and Clara Lange are sisters. Emma Z., Bertha, and Anna are family (is Bertha the mother?). Clara B. doesn't appear to fit in with any of the families. Maybe she was just a friend?

Chas. Dunlap in background.
The big house where they sleep
The little one is the kitchen and

dances there.
Love from- Myde (?) and Win

It took a while to translate that handwriting. I love the detail the writer puts into describing what each building was and I'm sure it could be very helpful for someone trying to identify the family.

Here is a closer look at the writing:

Mr and Mrs R.L. Evans 1888, New Port, Rhode Island

This is Mr and Mrs R.L. Evans, a young couple who are sitting for a picture in Chattanooga, Tenn. According to writing on the back, Mr Evans is 21 years old and Mrs Evans is only 18. This photo was badly damaged, so I tried cleaning it up on photoshop, though its still not perfect.

Patriotic Young Women 1940's

Unfortunately, I couldn't find a picture that fit this week's Sepia Saturday prompt. I did, however, find a picture of two patriotic young women posing in front of a service flag. Originally used in the First World War, service flags became popular again in the Second and were hung in the windows of those with family serving in the war. Each blue star represented a family member fighting, and each gold star represented family members who had died during service.  They are still used today.

To all my fellow Americans, Happy 4th of July!

Unknown Group 1880's, Basin Spring in Eureka Springs, AR

This is actually a snapshot of a much older picture. According to a family member, these are relatives of mine, though no one seems to know exactly who they are. Much of my family lived in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. A few years ago, I visited Eureka Springs myself, including this very spot at Basin Spring (though it's now surrounded by a very nice park.)

Basin Spring Today. A lot has changed...
This week's Sepia Saturday prompt reminded me of the little caves and grottoes all around Eureka Springs, which is still one of my favorite places to visit.

Happy Couple, 1940's

What better way to celebrate the first day of summer than a little grilling in your own backyard? This is a cheerful scene- you can make out the man's smile and the woman's laughter. The woman is wearing what I imagine was a very brightly colored apron with a fruit pattern. In one hand she's holding a fork and with the other, she's turning a crank on the grill. From what I've read, the crank would turn a small fan underneath the grill that fanned the flames.

Anne Peoples 1860's, Texas

This tin-type fit this week's Sepia Saturday prompt so well, I couldn't help participate (even if I'm a little late)! Anne Peoples is wearing elaborate earrings, a necklace, and a brooch, as well as a gold ring that has been carefully tinted.

The back of this badly damaged picture is almost as interesting of the front. Someone (Anne herself?) used a scrap bit of notebook paper as a backing and made it very clear the photo belonged to her. I'm not sure what "H.I.A" stands for. Is there anyone who might know?

Unknown Girl 1860's Louisville, Kentucky

I'm back from a short break! Now that it's near summertime, I should be having more time to post pictures. This is a pretty little girl from Louisville, Kentucky. Henry Metzel was a photographer in Louisville from 1865-1871, and I have a feeling this photograph was taken in the 1860's.

A Photo Finds a Home! (#1)

One of my old photographs has finally found a home! While researching this Real Picture postcard of two men and a sod house from Bowman County, North Dakota, I discovered a museum located in Bowman that had many interesting artifacts that told the history of the area. I was even excited to find that a reconstruction of a sod house had been built here and was on display near the museum! I contacted the Pioneer Trails Regional Museum to ask them about the picture and they told me they would love to have it.

I'm just happy I can return this photograph to the town it was sent from over a hundred years ago.

Unknown Men January 20th, 1911 Bowman, North Dakota

This is a Real Photo Postcard  of two men posing in front of a partially-finished sod house. I have a feeling they were pretty proud of their work so far!

The back reads:

Summers weather in Bowman Co. on Jan, 20- 1911

Edna Vitz and Peggy Behl, February 1949 Love Field

Finally- the very last photo in the album has names! At first I thought this photograph seemed unrelated to the others, before I realized the woman on the right (Peggy Behl) was the Mother and the woman on the left (Edna Vitz) was the friend or aunt that appeared in many of the snapshots, both in their later years.

I'm guessing that this was taken at Love Field, in Texas. I'm also guessing that, considering Peggy's last name is Behl, that the family's name is Behl? Maybe now we'll have a better chance of finding the family!

Photo 12 of Unknown Family 1940's-50's Texas

The littlest one of the family is here again- and now she (he?) is 10 and a half months old. She's being held up by a woman who's been appearing often in these photos. I think she is an aunt or neighbor. There is a baby stroller in the background that is very similar to others I have seen from this time period. They were usually blue or brown.

Photo 11 of Unknown Family 1940's-50's Texas

(Don't forget to click to enlarge.) Here is another vacation photo by the river, with Mom, Dad, Brother, and Sister and even their dog, but Grandma and the other two girls still aren't to be found. Maybe they really were just cousins? Either way, it sure looks like fun. Dad and Brother are fishing and there is a picnic waiting in the background.

Photo 10 of Unknown Family 1940's-50's Texas

The family continues to have some fun on vacation, posing here by some rather large boulders. There is the mother, one of her daughters, her son, and the father, along with their pup. The father seems to have a picnic basket in his hand. I wonder if they're planning on having lunch here?

Photo 9 of Unknown Family 1940's-50's Texas

I apologize for disappearing for a while... I've been very busy lately, but now I'm back to posting photos!

Now our Unknown Family is taking a trip down to the river (which river, I wonder?). Here is one of the little girl's and her mother, with their dog.

Photo 8 of Unknown Family 1940's-50's Texas

Here's another picture of Grandma (there are quite a few in the collection). She's holding the baby we saw here with Grandpa on the steps of the Sunday School. The back tells us the baby is 2 months.

Happy Valentine's Day! If you know who these lovely people are, let us know in the comments!

Photo 7 of Unknown Family 1940's-50's Texas

This is definitely one of the more peculiar pictures in the collection. Here is grandma, wearing shades, and holding...something. Is it a rock? A loaf of bread? If so, why is she posing with it? What do you think?

If you know who this may be (and what she is holding!), let us know in the comments!

Photo 6 of Unknown Family 1940's-50's Texas

Here's a snap of just the ladies. It looks pretty sunny out- everyone is either squinting or looking away. Everyone, that is, except for the ever-stoic grandmother. They've even put a bonnet on the littlest girl to shade her eyes.

Also, a note: I've decided not to post all twenty-something of the snapshots from the family collection on the blog, mostly because many of them are copies of each other or variations of the same photo. If these do, in fact, happen to be ancestors or family members of yours, than great! Let me know and you'll be able to get all of the snaps. :)

Photo 5 of Unknown Family 1940's-50's Texas

This is a snapshot of (nearly!) the whole family. The bottom row has grandma and her three granddaughters, the oldest of which is holding her pet cat. Standing in the back is Mom, Dad, and a third woman who could be an aunt or a neighbor.

Photo 4 of Unknown Family 1940's-50's Texas

(Sorry for the crookedness of this next snapshot!) This looks like the little girl missing in the last photograph, now posing with a young man and a dog. I'm going to take a guess and say the young man is her older brother? You can see they've stopped in the middle of some kind of work- there's a box, a hose, and a shovel propped up against the house.
