Photo 6 of Unknown Family 1940's-50's Texas

Here's a snap of just the ladies. It looks pretty sunny out- everyone is either squinting or looking away. Everyone, that is, except for the ever-stoic grandmother. They've even put a bonnet on the littlest girl to shade her eyes.

Also, a note: I've decided not to post all twenty-something of the snapshots from the family collection on the blog, mostly because many of them are copies of each other or variations of the same photo. If these do, in fact, happen to be ancestors or family members of yours, than great! Let me know and you'll be able to get all of the snaps. :)

Photo 5 of Unknown Family 1940's-50's Texas

This is a snapshot of (nearly!) the whole family. The bottom row has grandma and her three granddaughters, the oldest of which is holding her pet cat. Standing in the back is Mom, Dad, and a third woman who could be an aunt or a neighbor.

Photo 4 of Unknown Family 1940's-50's Texas

(Sorry for the crookedness of this next snapshot!) This looks like the little girl missing in the last photograph, now posing with a young man and a dog. I'm going to take a guess and say the young man is her older brother? You can see they've stopped in the middle of some kind of work- there's a box, a hose, and a shovel propped up against the house.

Photo 3 of Unknown Family 1940's-50's Texas

Here is another snapshot from the photo album. We now get to see Mom and Dad, but only two of the curly-haired girls are there. I wonder if the third is the one snapping the pic?

Photo 2 of Unknown Family 1940's-50's Texas

Here is another snapshot from the photo album collection. This is an older man (grandpa?) holding a baby girl on the steps of a Presbyterian Sunday School. There is still no sign of names or specific locations.

Photo 1 of Unknown Family 1940's-50's Texas

This is the first snapshot from my family album collection! It's very small- only somewhat bigger than a postage stamp. It shows what looks to me like Grandma posing with her three curly-haired granddaughters in the yard by their house. It's a shame there are no names here. Can you find the curious cat lurking in the background?

Family Photo Album 1940's-50's Texas (?)

I recently purchased a collection of over 20 snapshots taken from an old family photo album. There are a few names, ages, and locations given, but not much. There's quite a lot here, so it will take me a while to post all of them. This is looks like an interesting family, so I expect this to be a lot of fun. :)

Adolf, George, and Johannes Baur 1890's-1900's Moulton, Texas

This is a cabinet card of three handsome brothers. The youngest boy, Adolf, who looks about 18 or 19, is on the left leaning against a painted wooden prop. The eldest brother, George (or Papa Baur) is in the middle sitting on the fake stone wall. To the right is the middle child, Johannes, or John. His hand is resting on an interesting looking table where he has set down his hat.

Both the photographer and the brother's names sound German, which makes sense, since Moulton, Texas was home to many German and Czech families during the mid-1800's and onward.

Clara Watson Alber 1890's Unionville, Missouri

This is a cabinet card of Clara Watson Alber.

Her outfit is gorgeous! She is wearing a dark dress with a long, elaborate white lace collar and large, puffy sleeves. You can just make out the lovely beading on her sleeves and at the top of her skirt. She is accessorized with rings, a brooch, and a long necklace that is tucked behind a bow on her waist, probably so it wouldn't dangle too much. The hat that is beside her is adorned with ribbons, bows, flowers, and lace- just as much as the hat-maker could pile on! Propped up below the hat is a simple umbrella. I wonder if it was sunny or raining that day?

Maxine Meyers December 1927 San Antonio, Texas

I wanted to post a winter photograph, and this was as close as I could get!

This is a snapshot of a lovely lady named Maxine Meyers. According to the back, this was taken near San Antonio, Texas. She is lounging here up against a rock, and with one leg dangerously close to a cactus! There is a cape-like collar at the top of her dress, covered in what I imagine would be brightly colored flowers. Also, look at the heels on those shoes! Her hair looks Marcelled, which is similar to finger waves.

The back says: "My Wife Maxine Meyers". Something in between has been smudged out.

Mary Sue Sammans 1940's

This is a snapshot of little Mary Sue Sammans (Sammons?) It unfortunately doesn't say where it was taken, though she looks to be at some kind of park or forest. In the corner of the picture you can see part of a skirt and a hand ready to catch her in case she falls! I hope Mary Sue finds a good home.

Grandma and Grandpa Mayhew 1880's Franklin, Kentucky

My first picture of 2013!

This is a cabinet card of someone's Grandma and Grandpa Mayhew. There are no first names or ages here, but the man seems to be quite a bit older than the lady. I assume that they are married, but I don't see any rings on either of their hands. I could be wrong- but does Mrs. Mayhew look pregnant here?

Her dress is wonderful. She has white beads peeking out from the front and a lovely jeweled brooch, as well as a pin in her hair.
