Fred Pfaff was a photographer in Erie, Pennsylvania from the 1890's to about the 1910's. It seems he did portraits of both white and African American subjects , which was unusual for the time. The scroll of paper framing the woman suggests this may have been a memorial portrait. Unfortunately, there is no information on the woman herself anywhere on the picture.
