Grandma and Grandpa Mayhew 1880's Franklin, Kentucky

My first picture of 2013!

This is a cabinet card of someone's Grandma and Grandpa Mayhew. There are no first names or ages here, but the man seems to be quite a bit older than the lady. I assume that they are married, but I don't see any rings on either of their hands. I could be wrong- but does Mrs. Mayhew look pregnant here?

Her dress is wonderful. She has white beads peeking out from the front and a lovely jeweled brooch, as well as a pin in her hair.

If you know who this couple may be, let us know in the comments!

  1. My first thought was baby bump..:) Her dress is lovely. Late 1880's I think..tight fitting jacket and sleeves, high collars with a brooch at the neck. Happy New Year young lady! :)

  3. The Mayhew family was one of the "pioneer" families in Kentucky. There were a long number of them living in Franklin, Simpson county - and the Simpson County Historical Society might have a lead on this one for you (if you email the address found on http://www.simpsoncountykyarchives.com/) or visit their facebook page.

  5. This is probably William Wesley Mayhew (1832-1924) and his wife Elizabeth T. Walker (1834-1891). I have a copy of a photograph of William W. Mayhew from about 1868-70 and he looks as if it is him. This photograph by Webb is from the late 1880s.
