Riley and Rose Ridgway 1890s, Illinois

This couple is George Riley and Rose Ridgway, married in 1893, around when this picture was likely taken.  George was a farmer and later a Methodist minister. He and Rose had five children: Huron, Thomas, Lilly, Oral, and Fern.

Aunt Jess and Uncle Frank Cook 1900's Stevens Point, Wisconsin

Jessie Rowe and Frank Cook were married in 1902 and had two sons, Robert F and Clifton R. In 1910, Frank was a house painter and in 1920, he was a janitor for a post office. Judging by Jess's hairstyle, this is definitely early 1900's and could have been a wedding portrait.

Martha Seim and Clifford Franklin 1936, Muskegon Heights, Michigan

The back reads:
"Wedding at Muskegon Heights, Michigan.
Martha Seim and Clifford Franklin
June 27, 1936."

According to their marriage license, Clifford Franklin was 27 at the time of their marriage and Martha Seim was 26. Clifford was the son of Elmer Franklin and Sarah Lenard. Martha was the daughter of Felix Seim and Annette Peskie. Both were factory workers. Unfortunately, there's not much else I can find about either of them.

With the help of Ancestry.com, I identified this couple as Clint and Myrtle Young of Lincoln, Nebraska. Clint was a farmer born in Illinois. With Myrtle he had three children: Joie, Clifford, and Pearl.

Anne Peoples and Family, 1870's-1880's

 This tintype was found with the picture of Anne Peoples I posted back in June. I figured they were related in some way and noticed the two women looked very similar to the Anne in the first picture, especially the one on the far right.

Is one of these women Anne? If so, is the man her husband? Who are the children?
Unfortunately, there are no names, so there is no way of knowing for sure. What do you think?

This is the Paul family from Germany, which includes Herman, his wife Elinore, and their five children. They are fashionably dressed, which suggests that they may have been well-off. The little girls in the picture appear to be holding crocheted sacks with some sort of balls in them. I wonder if anyone might know what those are?

This is a little snapshot of the Atkin family posing on a bed with their 3 month-old baby, Sharie (?) Kay. She seems like a very wiggly little girl!

Mr and Mrs R.L. Evans 1888, New Port, Rhode Island

This is Mr and Mrs R.L. Evans, a young couple who are sitting for a picture in Chattanooga, Tenn. According to writing on the back, Mr Evans is 21 years old and Mrs Evans is only 18. This photo was badly damaged, so I tried cleaning it up on photoshop, though its still not perfect.

Happy Couple, 1940's

What better way to celebrate the first day of summer than a little grilling in your own backyard? This is a cheerful scene- you can make out the man's smile and the woman's laughter. The woman is wearing what I imagine was a very brightly colored apron with a fruit pattern. In one hand she's holding a fork and with the other, she's turning a crank on the grill. From what I've read, the crank would turn a small fan underneath the grill that fanned the flames.

Grandma and Grandpa Mayhew 1880's Franklin, Kentucky

My first picture of 2013!

This is a cabinet card of someone's Grandma and Grandpa Mayhew. There are no first names or ages here, but the man seems to be quite a bit older than the lady. I assume that they are married, but I don't see any rings on either of their hands. I could be wrong- but does Mrs. Mayhew look pregnant here?

Her dress is wonderful. She has white beads peeking out from the front and a lovely jeweled brooch, as well as a pin in her hair.

Sybil and Tennie Guillory and Reinhardt (?) 1920's

This is the last picture I have of Pearl's family. Pearl Cockfield eventually married Jules Barre around 1920. This is an Artura Real Photo Postcard of Jules's cousins, Sybil and Tennie Guillory, and Sybil's husband, Rheinhardt(?). I'm not sure where the picture was taken, most likely in Louisiana.

Unknown Family 1920's-30's

 This lovely little family caught my eye the other day. This is an Azo Real Photo postcard and the stamp box suggest it's from the twenties or thirties. It looks like the man is wearing some sort of fedora and a single-breasted, striped suit. Both he and his wife are wearing glasses. I love the little boots on the children- a boy and a girl maybe? On the back it reads:

"We are just home from Sunday School and the children are tired and hungry and not very anxious to have their picture snapped."

Sadly, there are no locations or names given.
