Snow Family 1890's, Dallas, Texas

These are two photographs of the Snow family. The first photograph was most likely taken in the early 1890's, while the second was taken later in 1899.
John and Rachel Snow married in 1884 and had four daughters: Rosa L, the eldest, born 1887, Cora Ell born 1891, Annie Blanche born 1893, and the youngest, Florence Ada, or "Crickett", born 1897.

Ellis Family 1910's, Caddo, Oklahoma

I always enjoy photographs of houses, as they often have a lot of interesting details. The house number is listed above the door- 528. On the porch is a baby carriage, metal tub, and a small rocking chair. Posing in front of the home is the Ellis family.

Delphina Mugler was born in Caddo, Choctaw Nation, Oklahoma, to Francisco and Theodocia Mugler. Both she and her mother are listed as Native American and were members of the Choctaw nation. In 1903 Delphine married Charles Victor Ellis. Their first son, Pushmataha Francisco Ellis, was born in 1904. Daughter Pocahontas Ellis was born in 1907, Hardinia in 1911 and son Henry Charles was born in 1915. I believe the baby is a younger daughter, Delphine, born in 1918.

Anne Peoples and Family, 1870's-1880's

 This tintype was found with the picture of Anne Peoples I posted back in June. I figured they were related in some way and noticed the two women looked very similar to the Anne in the first picture, especially the one on the far right.

Is one of these women Anne? If so, is the man her husband? Who are the children?
Unfortunately, there are no names, so there is no way of knowing for sure. What do you think?

Whitlow Family with their Dog 1920's

This is an interesting photo of a family and their dog taken in front of a home. It must have been sunny outside because everyone is squinting and covering their eyes! I'm not entirely sure if I've read the handwriting correctly, but if I have, they certainly have some unusual names, though unfortunately there is no last name.

Herman and Elinore Paul 1900's, Budapest

This is the Paul family from Germany, which includes Herman, his wife Elinore, and their five children. They are fashionably dressed, which suggests that they may have been well-off. The little girls in the picture appear to be holding crocheted sacks with some sort of balls in them. I wonder if anyone might know what those are?

I don't know about a man with two wives, like in this week's Sepia Saturday prompt, but I do have some sisters! Two Emmas and two Claras. It seems Emma Lange and Clara Lange are sisters. Emma Z., Bertha, and Anna are family (is Bertha the mother?). Clara B. doesn't appear to fit in with any of the families. Maybe she was just a friend?

It took a while to translate that handwriting. I love the detail the writer puts into describing what each building was and I'm sure it could be very helpful for someone trying to identify the family.

Patriotic Young Women 1940's

Unfortunately, I couldn't find a picture that fit this week's Sepia Saturday prompt. I did, however, find a picture of two patriotic young women posing in front of a service flag. Originally used in the First World War, service flags became popular again in the Second and were hung in the windows of those with family serving in the war. Each blue star represented a family member fighting, and each gold star represented family members who had died during service.  They are still used today.

Unknown Group 1880's, Basin Spring in Eureka Springs, AR

This is actually a snapshot of a much older picture. According to a family member, these are relatives of mine, though no one seems to know exactly who they are. Much of my family lived in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. A few years ago, I visited Eureka Springs myself, including this very spot at Basin Spring (though it's now surrounded by a very nice park.)

This week's Sepia Saturday prompt reminded me of the little caves and grottoes all around Eureka Springs, which is still one of my favorite places to visit.

Happy Couple, 1940's

What better way to celebrate the first day of summer than a little grilling in your own backyard? This is a cheerful scene- you can make out the man's smile and the woman's laughter. The woman is wearing what I imagine was a very brightly colored apron with a fruit pattern. In one hand she's holding a fork and with the other, she's turning a crank on the grill. From what I've read, the crank would turn a small fan underneath the grill that fanned the flames.

A Photo Finds a Home! (#1)

One of my old photographs has finally found a home! While researching this Real Picture postcard of two men and a sod house from Bowman County, North Dakota, I discovered a museum located in Bowman that had many interesting artifacts that told the history of the area. I was even excited to find that a reconstruction of a sod house had been built here and was on display near the museum! I contacted the Pioneer Trails Regional Museum to ask them about the picture and they told me they would love to have it.

I'm just happy I can return this photograph to the town it was sent from over a hundred years ago.

Edna Vitz and Peggy Behl, February 1949 Love Field

Finally- the very last photo in the album has names! At first I thought this photograph seemed unrelated to the others, before I realized the woman on the right (Peggy Behl) was the Mother and the woman on the left (Edna Vitz) was the friend or aunt that appeared in many of the snapshots, both in their later years.

I'm guessing that this was taken at Love Field, in Texas. I'm also guessing that, considering Peggy's last name is Behl, that the family's name is Behl? Maybe now we'll have a better chance of finding the family!

 The littlest one of the family is here again- and now she (he?) is 10 and a half months old. She's being held up by a woman who's been appearing often in these photos. I think she is an aunt or neighbor. There is a baby stroller in the background that is very similar to others I have seen from this time period. They were usually blue or brown.

(Don't forget to click to enlarge.) Here is another vacation photo by the river, with Mom, Dad, Brother, and Sister and even their dog, but Grandma and the other two girls still aren't to be found. Maybe they really were just cousins? Either way, it sure looks like fun. Dad and Brother are fishing and there is a picnic waiting in the background.

The family continues to have some fun on vacation, posing here by some rather large boulders. There is the mother, one of her daughters, her son, and the father, along with their pup. The father seems to have a picnic basket in his hand. I wonder if they're planning on having lunch here?

Here's another picture of Grandma (there are quite a few in the collection). She's holding the baby we saw here with Grandpa on the steps of the Sunday School. The back tells us the baby is 2 months.

Here's a snap of just the ladies. It looks pretty sunny out- everyone is either squinting or looking away. Everyone, that is, except for the ever-stoic grandmother. They've even put a bonnet on the littlest girl to shade her eyes.

Also, a note: I've decided not to post all twenty-something of the snapshots from the family collection on the blog, mostly because many of them are copies of each other or variations of the same photo. If these do, in fact, happen to be ancestors or family members of yours, than great! Let me know and you'll be able to get all of the snaps. :)
